Problem and solution

Regular translators break the context. LingoGist understands idioms and phrasal verbs.

Instead of word-for-word translations, you get meaningful phrases – ideal for learning languages by reading with real articles.

Three tools for real reading comprehension

Contextual translation, graded reading, and vocabulary training – right in your browser.

Smart Chunks

AI detects connected phrases on hover – idioms, phrasal verbs, and fixed expressions instead of isolated single words.

Graded Reading

Simplify complex articles to B1 level with one click. Read real news adapted to your language level.

Vocabulary Export

Save phrases with context sentence and source URL. Export everything as CSV for Anki or your vocabulary routine.

For everyone learning languages through real texts

Read Spanish news – Whether El País, BBC Mundo, or local blogs: open any article in reader mode, read in your native language, and reveal unknown phrases on hover. Learn Spanish by reading with authentic vocabulary instead of textbook dialogues.

Learn English vocabulary in context – Phrasal verbs like "give up" or "look into" are recognized and translated as a unit. You always see the full context sentence and can export it to Anki.

Graded reading for intermediate learners – Too complex? One click simplifies the article to B1 level without distorting the news. Perfect for contextual translation when moving from A2 to B2.

Chrome extension translator – French, Portuguese, or Japanese: LingoGist is your tool for immersive reading – without tab switching or breaking your reading flow.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about LingoGist.

Yes. LingoGist is a free Chrome extension. You can read articles, translate phrases in context, and export vocabulary without paying. Graded reading and advanced translations use a cloud backend – that is also free for users.

Which languages are supported?

In cloud mode, LingoGist supports 35+ languages including Spanish, English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Chinese. In local mode (without cloud), English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese are available.

How does Smart Chunk AI work?

When you hover over text, LingoGist automatically detects connected phrases – idioms, phrasal verbs, and fixed expressions – instead of translating single words only. You get a translation that respects sentence context and sounds more natural.

Does LingoGist work on every website?

LingoGist extracts articles from most news and blog sites. Open a page with a readable article, start reader mode via the extension icon, and read the text in your chosen language.

Is my data sent to servers?

In automatic mode, LingoGist first tries to translate locally in your browser. Graded reading and optional cloud translation send text to our backend for processing. See our privacy policy for details.
